Dr. Octopus

Here's my MP write-up for Dr. Octopus, a Marvel super-villain and long-time Spider-Man foe!

Dr. Octopus first appeared in Amazing Spider-Man #3, published July 10th, 1963. He was created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko.

Dr. Octopus Sheet Image

Notes:
1. The reason I chose to use Telekinesis to simulate the tentacle arms is because I didn't want to give Doc Ock Heightened Strength, making him much more difficult to knock-out. Spider-Man actually knocks Ock out with one punch in issue #3.

2. The Shield ability simulates his tentacles shielding him from damage.
3. The second number shown on the Leaping line of the MP sheet is from my house rule on leaping. The first number shown uses the official MP rules.
4. This write-up reflects Doc Ock's Silver and Bronze Age abilities.
5. I've borrowed Robot Brain from the MP Vehicle rules in order to simulate how the tentacles are semi-intelligent.
6. The Repulsion Blast represents Doc Ock's ability to spin his tentacle arms like a giant fan, blowing everything away in an area effect -- very Silver Age ability!
7. If the tentacle harness takes enough damage to break it, roll a d8 to randomly determine which Ability breaks.

The Mandalorian

Throw in a bit of the spaghetti western A Fistful of Dollars, a dash of the graphic novel Lone Wolf and Cub, and a sprinkling of John Wick, blend it all togehter and set it in the Star Wars universe and you get Disney's show The Mandalorian!

Here is my V&V3: Mighty Protectors write-up of the "Mando"! Below I'll go over the reasons why I choose certain traits or abilities.

Neutral Side - I made the Mandalorian Neutral because "good" people don't usually go around disintegrating other sentient beings. On the other hand, he's not all bad, with redeemable qualities such as saving "baby Yoda".

Incredibly Accurate - The Mando rarely ever misses when shooting someone. So, I gave him lots of heightened expertise.

Disintegration - In the Mighty Protectors rules it's hard to disintegrate an individual because, as the rules say "living things struck with Disintegration energy don’t vaporize - they merely ‘disrupt’, taking full damage from the attack, but not actually disintegrating until they’re no longer living".

However, if one were to use a "High Lethality" rule for a Mighty Protectors campaign (see below), then it becomes much easier to actually disintegrate a living being.

Arsenal - The Mando has a lot of gear, from armor to weapons and lots of things in between. Arsenal is the best and cheapest way to do this in the MP system. You can see the detailed arsenal write-up here: Mandalorian Arsenal.

Stats - I gave Mando fairly high stats but nothing superhuman. He's the equivalent of a world-class athlete.

Wealth - The world of the Mandalorian does involve money. He earns it from doing bounties and he spends it upgrading or fixing his armor, fueling his ship, and paying for weapon cells, and so forth.

Weaknesses - In the first episode, the Mandalorian expresses distaste for droids, so I gave him the appropriate character hook. He also seems keen on following The Way of the Mandalorian religion. Thus another compulsion for that.

Vehicle - I had previously written-up the Mando's ship. You can see that post here: Razor Crest Gunship

High Lethality Campaign - Roll damage normally. Multiply by five any damage the character takes beyond 0 hits. This can easily kill "normal" characters, but will not outright kill player-characters or important npc's, who tend to have many more hit points than an average person.

For example, the Mando averages 17 points of damage with his disruptor rifle (disintegration). An average person can roll with 4, take 4 hits putting them at 0. The remaining 9 hits are multiplied by five: 9x5=45, which is more than their remaining 36 power. Because they are dead by disintegration ray, their body vaporizes.

Notes:

  1. 12-06-19 I've updated the Mando's arsenal to include devices shown in episode 5: flash charge and handcuffs!

Black Mamba

Here's my MP write-up for Black Mamba, a member of Marvel's evil Serpent Society! This write-up reflects her Bronze Age abilities.

Black Mamba generally prefers to attack her victims while they are unaware of her presence. She first scans her target to find a memory of a loved one. Shen then utilizes her Shaping ability to create an image of that person (the shape uses it's own shape-shifting ability to assume the correct form).

The shape, now in the form of the target's loved one, will use it's Emotion Control ability to cause the victim to be in a euphoric state.

The shape can also siphon Endurance from it's victim or crush the life out of it with super-human strength.

Due to the psychic link between Black Mamba and her created shape (also known as her "darkforce skin"), one half of any damage done to the shape is taken by Black Mamba.

Most of the time, Black Mamba will have her four companion snakes coiled around her body, and delaying their action until a foe is within striking distance.

Notes:
1. When Black Mamba activates her Shaping ability, she usually spends 3 Power, creating a human-sized shape with the following stats: weighs 1341 pounds, SR 15, a volume of 1.67 cubic feet, and has 20 hits.

Black Noir

SPOILER WARNING!

This write-up details the super-abilities and other information about the character from the new Amazon Prime show The Boys.

Here's my Mighty Protectors write-up for Black Noir, one of the supers in the group called "The Seven."

Black Noir is a clone of Homelander, only stronger and less stable. In the comics, he actually kills Homelander before he himself is eventually killed.

MP Sheet

Notes:
1. I made him stronger than the first version of Homelander that I created.
2. I also added Natural Weaponry to give him a distinct edge in HTH combat over Homelander.
3. It's been suggested that Homelander, and consequently Black Noir, should have Invulnerability. I think that's a reasonable suggestion but it makes them MUCH more difficult to defeat.

Starlight

SPOILER WARNING!
This write-up details the super-abilities of a character from the new Amazon Prime show The Boys.

Here's my MP write-up for Starlight, a member of the superhero team the Seven, the world's top superhero team. Before joining the Seven, Starlight fought crime by herself, in her hometown of Des Moines, Iowa. She is conservative and religious, and has been shaken to discover that the members of the Seven are essentially evil jerks.

Queen Maeve

SPOILER WARNING!
This write-up details the super-abilities of a character from the new Amazon Prime show The Boys.

Here's my MP write-up for Queen Maeve, a member of the superhero team the Seven. Where Homelander is sort of an evil Superman, Maeve is the disallusioned and cynical version of Wonder Woman, albeit with no magic lasso or invisible plane.

Queen Maeve is considered the second most powerful member of the Seven, only behind Homelander in terms of raw power. In the comic, she can fly, but in the Amazon show she cannot. In The Boys Amazon show, she has the following abilities: super strength and stamina, nigh-invulnerability, and is an expert at combat. She once killed a person by throwing a pen into their neck from over fifty feet away, which implies that she is highly accurate.

Maeve was once idealistic and a feminine icon, but over the years while working for the evil Vought corporation, she has become disillusioned and cynical. She still has a spark of humanity in her, as evidenced by the scene with the doomed passenger plane, but she ultimately goes along with Homelander's plan to leave the passengers to die. This is why her side is evil and her motivation is a mercenary/servitor for the Vought corporation.

Maeve once dated Homelander but she has also had a sexual relationship with a woman. Like the other long-time members of the Seven, she has become quite wealthy.

The Deep

SPOILER WARNING!
This write-up details the super-abilities of a character from the new Amazon Prime show The Boys.

Here's my MP write-up for The Deep, a member of the superhero team the Seven. The Deep is not well-respected by the other members of the Seven. After his inappropriate sexual advance on Starlight, he lost even more respect.

Aside from  having gills that allow him to breathe underwater, not much is known about the Deep. Since Starlight says the other members of the Seven, including herself, consider him to be a joke, I built him on fewer CPs than the others.

Translucent

SPOILER WARNING!
This write-up details the super-abilities of a character from the new Amazon Prime show The Boys.

Updated: 080819
Updated: 080319

Here's my MP write-up for Translucent, a member of the superhero team the Seven. Translucent has two main abilities: invisibility and invulnerability. To model his invulnerability, I've given him Armor, Adaptation, and Invulnerability (to kinetic and energy).

He's strong enough to win a hand to hand fight with Butcher, but not strong enough to break out of a metal cage, so I gave him approximate peak human strength.

Translucent has carbonized skin that is as resilient as diamond. He can't be hurt from the outside - except for a vulnerability to electricity - but should he swallow something, or otherwise have a dangerous object put inside of his body, his invulnerability and armor don't apply.

His invisibility does not apply to clothes or carried items, which results in him being naked most of the time.

MP Sheet

Notes:
1. Translucent is not in the comic, he's a new character with some of Jack from Jupiter's abilities.
2. 080319: I've updated Translucent to show that his invisibility does not cover his clothes or things he carries. Also, I lowered his IN and raised his EN a small amount.
3. 080819: I've updated Translucent by increasing his Armor and also by showing that it is hardened against armor piercing attacks.

Translucent is a character on the Amazon show, "The Boys". This write-up is by B.K. Adams. Mighty Protectors is a trademark of Monkey House Games.

MP Villain Spotlight: Invisi-Bull

Intro: Here's another MP Villain Spotlight character -- Manotaur a.k.a. Invisi-Bull, who is a 150 CP MIghty Protectors villain.

Origin:

Mark Macready was a criminal who really enjoyed stealing cars; he ran a ring of thieves based in Chicago for years. Eventually, the FBI caught him and his gang and because it was his "third strike" felony the judge came down hard giving him a 20-year sentence.

Convaris, a multi-national drug company, struck a deal with the private company running Macready's prison facility. The prisoners were offered a deal: volunteer for Convaris drug-testing and potentially have years cut off of their sentence. Macready, hoping to reduce his sentence, volunteered for the testing.

Convaris didn't really care about the well-being of the prisoners they were experimenting upon. Macready was one of the luckier ones: instead of being seriously harmed he actually gained super-powers! The cocktail of drugs administered to Mark Macready transformed him into something of a monster.

Convaris scientists wanted to study Macready's to see if they could duplicate their creation and although Mark was now less intelligent, he was still savvy enough to know that he didn't want to be a guinea pig... so he escaped and has been on the run ever since.

A prominent tabloid newspaper dubbed him "Inivisa-bull" and the name stuck, a fact that Macready hates. He calls himself the "Manotaur", although almost no one else does.

After knocking over several banks, he has a fair amount of money saved up.

Personality:

Macready has always been driven by greed, but after his transformation he has an additional motivation: vengeance. He will go out of his way to harm anyone in law enforcement and he particularly hates scientists. Should an opportunity arise to steal from a Convaris facility he will gladly do so.

Tactics:

Before any encounter, Invisi-Bull will activate his Blur Invisibility, reducing the Sight sense of anyone looking at him by one level (eg, full to basic).

Should Invisi-Bull find himself losing a fight he will try to run away using his Speed ability, pushing his acceleration to put as much distance between himself and the heroes as possible.

Quote: "Don't call me 'Invisi-Bull'! I hate that name! Now I'm gonna have ta' paint my horns red with your blood!"

Notes:
1. The artwork was created using the Paragon Chat game.
2. Invisi-Bull makes a good villain for a group of 4-5 100-110 CP heroes.

Number Seven

Here's my MP write-up for the Umbrella Academy superhero known as Number Seven, a.k.a. The White Violin, a.k.a. Vanya Hargreeves.

Character Sheet Image

Notes:
1. This write-up reflects the Umbrella Academy comic, not the Netflix series.
2. Although it's not clear that it is in the comic, I included Sonic Boom as one of her abilities in order to round out her sonic powers and to make her an even 200 CPs.
3. The Conductor altered Vanya's body, creating her alter-ego of the villainous White Violin.

This write-up is by B.K. Adams. The White Violin is a trademark of Dark Horse Comics. Mighty Protectors is a trademark of Monkey House Games.
