MP Villain Spotlight: Scrapper!

Scott "Disco" Scruggs has been an unlucky loser most of his life. His father was killed when he was still a child. His mother remarried but his step-father, who was often drunk and abusive, never liked him. Scott was bad at learning -- he hated school and skipped it as often as he could. He was eventually expelled from high school in 10th grade. He took the family car for a joy ride, which ended with the car being wrecked. His stepfather then kicked him out of the house and he began living on the streets. He had been drinking and smoking since he was ten years old, but he got into harder drugs in his 20's. He has been committing minor crimes most of his life.

As an adult, Scruggs became a handyman and a junker. He met "KT" ten years ago in the county lockup, and the two have been close ever since. KT's son, Elijah, lives with them both at their base, "Scrap Hollow."

Recently, though,  Scruggs luck has changed for the better. While scavenging for items after a major superhero-supervillain battle, he found a powerful artifact -- a magic wand. Once he figured out how it works, he's been using it to case potential places to rob by scouting it in astral form. Once he knows the layout of the place he and his cohorts -- his girlfriend KT and her son Elijah -- proceed to rob the place.

Sheet Images
Notes:
1. Elijah sleeps on a couch, which isn't shown on the "Scrap Hollow" map.
2. A large propane tank serves as the "central power system" for the Scrap Hollow base.
3. Scrapper's armored vest is 3/3/3/3 protection (default values).

Scrapper, "KT" Williams, and Elijah Williams are characters created by B.K. Adams. "Scrapper Base" and "Scrapper Truck" are also created by B.K. Adams. Mighty Protectors is trademarked by Monkey House Games.

Black Noir

SPOILER WARNING!

This write-up details the super-abilities and other information about the character from the new Amazon Prime show The Boys.

Here's my Mighty Protectors write-up for Black Noir, one of the supers in the group called "The Seven."

Black Noir is a clone of Homelander, only stronger and less stable. In the comics, he actually kills Homelander before he himself is eventually killed.

MP Sheet

Notes:
1. I made him stronger than the first version of Homelander that I created.
2. I also added Natural Weaponry to give him a distinct edge in HTH combat over Homelander.
3. It's been suggested that Homelander, and consequently Black Noir, should have Invulnerability. I think that's a reasonable suggestion but it makes them MUCH more difficult to defeat.

The Female

SPOILER WARNING!
This write-up details the super-abilities of a character from the new Amazon Prime show The Boys.

Here's my MP write-up for The Female, a member of the Boys.

MP Sheet

Notes:
1. I put the Female on the Good side, even though she murders people, like almost every protagonist on the show.
2. On the show, her strength is debatable, but she's strong enough to snap a grown man's neck and she also leaps ten plus feet from a crouched position. So, I gave her close to peak human strength.

Here's my MP write-up for Mother's Milk, a member of the Boys. Here's a link to a google sheet showing his weapon Arsenal.

MP Sheet

Notes:
1. His Arsenal is 5 CPs over the Ability Cap.

Frenchie

SPOILER WARNING!
This write-up details the super-abilities of a character from the new Amazon Prime show The Boys.

Here's my MP write-up for Frenchie, the volatile gun runner of the Boys. Here's a link to a google sheet showing his weapon Arsenal.

MP Sheet
Notes:
1. His Arsenal is 5 CPs over the Ability Cap.
2. I gave him a bit of Wealth because as a gun runner he probably made hundreds of thousands of dollars.
3. Some of his abilities reflect what I've read about his comic character, e.g., his acute sense of smell.

Starlight

SPOILER WARNING!
This write-up details the super-abilities of a character from the new Amazon Prime show The Boys.

Here's my MP write-up for Starlight, a member of the superhero team the Seven, the world's top superhero team. Before joining the Seven, Starlight fought crime by herself, in her hometown of Des Moines, Iowa. She is conservative and religious, and has been shaken to discover that the members of the Seven are essentially evil jerks.

Queen Maeve

SPOILER WARNING!
This write-up details the super-abilities of a character from the new Amazon Prime show The Boys.

Here's my MP write-up for Queen Maeve, a member of the superhero team the Seven. Where Homelander is sort of an evil Superman, Maeve is the disallusioned and cynical version of Wonder Woman, albeit with no magic lasso or invisible plane.

Queen Maeve is considered the second most powerful member of the Seven, only behind Homelander in terms of raw power. In the comic, she can fly, but in the Amazon show she cannot. In The Boys Amazon show, she has the following abilities: super strength and stamina, nigh-invulnerability, and is an expert at combat. She once killed a person by throwing a pen into their neck from over fifty feet away, which implies that she is highly accurate.

Maeve was once idealistic and a feminine icon, but over the years while working for the evil Vought corporation, she has become disillusioned and cynical. She still has a spark of humanity in her, as evidenced by the scene with the doomed passenger plane, but she ultimately goes along with Homelander's plan to leave the passengers to die. This is why her side is evil and her motivation is a mercenary/servitor for the Vought corporation.

Maeve once dated Homelander but she has also had a sexual relationship with a woman. Like the other long-time members of the Seven, she has become quite wealthy.

A-Train

SPOILER WARNING!
This write-up details the super-abilities of a character from the new Amazon Prime show The Boys.

Here's my MP write-up for A-Train, a member of the superhero team the Seven. It is mentioned in one of the episodes that A-Train can run over 1000 mile per hour and due to his Speed and Super Speed abilities, he can run at 1044 mph in this write-up.

In one episode he is shown slowly pulling a train with perhaps ten other connected train cars, but he doesn't seem to be super-strong like Homelander is. I therefore used Telekinesis, with a lot of modifiers, to simulate how he uses his Speed ability to drag super-heavy things -- like trains.

MP Sheet

Notes:
1. It is never shown but rather inferred that A-Train can run over water.

A-Train is a character on the Amazon show, "The Boys". This write-up is by B.K. Adams. Mighty Protectors is a trademark of Monkey House Games.

Kree Starship & Kree Soldier

Here are my Mighty Protector write-ups for a Bronze-Age Kree starship and Kree soldier. The vehicle and the soldiers are based upon early Marvel comic books, namely: Marvel Super-Heroes #12-13 and Captain Marvel #1-#16.

Vehicle Sheet

Soldier Sheet

Kree Military Uniforms

Notes:
1. The ship uses the teleportation ability (it opens a gateway) to travel through space. It has enough distance to instantaneously get to the Large Magellanic Cloud (the Kree's home galaxy), which is 158,200 light years from Earth. I extrapolated from the chart in the MP rule book to get the distance for (60) CPs.
2. The ship has Adaptation: Spaceworthy, which is the Adaptation ability and includes: asphyxiation, cold temperatures, low pressure, and radiation.
3. The integral abilities of Automation and Performance (Ht. Agility and Ht. Cool, respectively) were only added to make the total system spaces properly add-up.
4. Female Kree sometimes have abilities the males do not receive, such as Emotion Control and Siphon.
  • Emotion Control: Love, IN sv@-2 (10), CL" range, Single Emotion (-5), Misc: males only (-5), Unobvious (5), PR=1 (5), Total CP cost = (10).
  • Siphon: 2d6 hits (15), Suppress (-5), No Range (0), PR=0, Total CP cost = (10).

Sentry #459

Here is my Mighty Protectors write-up for Sentry #459, a Marvel comics antagonist who was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, debuting in Fantastic Four #64 (July, 1967). The stats and abilities of Sentry #459 reflect Marvel Super Heroes #13 as well as Captain Marvel #1 and #2 (May, 1968).

MP sheet

30-Foot Robot

Invisible Wall

Bullet's Don't Hurt Him
Flight (from Avengers #89)

His Sensors Told Him I am... a Kree

Instantaneous Repair

Notes:
1. In Fantastic Four #64, and in the Unofficial Handbook of the Marvel Universe, Sentry #459 is described as being 15 feet tall. Because it is explicitly shown in Marvel Super-Heroes #13 that he is 30 feet tall, that's what I made him.
2. I invented a (5) CP miscellaneous modifier for the Communicators ability that allows the Sub-Space modifier to work anywhere, not just in space. This is because Sentry #459 is shown communicating on Earth with his Kree masters, who reside in a different galaxy.
3. In other comic books, Sentry #459 is shown as having additional abilities of Flight and Power Blast, which  could be added, if one were so inclined.
4. Sentry #459 often describes himself as being invulnerable. While I did not give him full Invulnerability, it could certainly be added.
5. Shaping represents his ability to create invisible walls which are highly resistant to damage.

Captain Marvel (Mar-Vell)

Here is my Mighty Protectors write-up for Captain Marvel, a Marvel comics hero who was created by Stan Lee and Gene Colan and debuted in Marvel Super-Heroes #12 (Dec, 1967). His stats and abilities reflect Captain Marvel issues #1 to #15, while he still wears his green and white battle-suit, and before he is imbued with additional powers in issue #17.

Updated 06-19-19: I've added a Heightened Attack invention that makes Mar-Vell's Wrist-Lens more powerful. He does this in issue #1, if I recall correctly.

MP sheet

Battle Helmet Gives Air

Wrist-Lens Power Blast & Flash

Oxygen-Burning Rocket Belt

Can't Breathe Earth Air Without a Potion

Notes:
1. I gave Mar-Vell +5 ST and +5 EN because the Kree are described as being stronger and tougher and humans.
2. The Natural Weaponry is there to reflect how Mar-Vell is described as a great unarmed fighter. In issue #4 Mar-Vell fights the Sub-Mariner, who is much stronger, but appears to be less skilled at unarmed combat.
3. The Wrist-Lens, or Universal Beam device as Mar-vell also calls it, is a weapon worn on Mar-Vell's right wrist. It has a variety of functions as shown on his character sheet. In issue #12 of Marvel Super-Heroes, Mar-Vell demonstrates how his Uni-Beam can reverse the damage it causes, but this ability is never used again. Thus, I did not include it as a modifier for his Power Blast.
4. Mar-Vell, or his beloved Una, are capable of creating the potion that allows him to breathe Earth air, but it only works for one hour. The MP weakness to best reflect this is Special Requirement. Mar-Vell can use his battle helmet, but not when he is impersonating Dr. Walter Lawson.
5. Yon-Rogg is a true nemesis of Mar-Vell and could be included on his write-up as: NEMESIS, Less Powerful (-2.5), Common (-10). However, due to the weakness cap of (-20) CPs, he gets no points for it.

Psimon

Here's my Mighty Protectors write-up of DC villain Psimon. This write-up is mostly based upon issue #3 of the New Teen Titans comic book with additional material from the 2nd edition of Mayfair's DC Superheroes RPG. Psimon was created by Marv Wolfman and George Perez.

Shimmer

Here's my Mighty Protectors write-up of DC villain Shimmer. This write-up is based upon issue #3 of the New Teen Titans comic book; her origin story text is cribbed from Comicvine. Shimmer was created by Marv Wolfman and George Perez and debuted in issue #3 of the New Teen Titans, published January 1981.

Shimmer has one super ability -- she can transform any physical object or substance into any other element or substance. In Mighty Protector terms this is the Transmutation ability (see p. 76). Any transmuted Gear gets a save to resist based on its Gear BC. Any other substance transmuted gets an EN-based saving throw based upon its mass. Find its weight in the ST Carry column of the Basic Characteristic table and read across to the Saves column to find its save.

The Transmutation ability has a (+10) modifier for more than one target, in this case "any physical object", but it doesn't have a modifier for turning those targets into "anything". For that I gave it another (+10) modifier.

Shimmer's one super-power blows past the Ability Cap for her 150 CPs, but there's really no way around that, and honestly... she's not overpowered.

In MP game mechanic terms, what effect Shimmer's transmuted substance has is up to the GM, but if its a damaging substance, like a poison or chemical, the saving throw penalty should be at least as good as the standard attack for Poison/Venom, with an EN save @-8. So when she turns an object into Ether gas, as she does in Teen Titans #3, everyone in the Area Effect should get an EN save @-8 or fall asleep.

Of course, she doesn't always have to use her power in a damaging way... she could just wave her hands and make any Gear in her area effect turn into air... or turn a section of wall into vapor. Her ability is limited only by the imagination of the GM running her.

Mammoth

Here's my Mighty Protectors write-up of DC super-villain Mammoth. This write-up is based upon issue #3 of the New Teen Titans comic book, as well as information from Comicvine. Mammoth was created by Marv Wolfman and George Perez and made his comics debut in issue #3 of the New Teen Titans, published January 1981.

Gizmo

Here's my Mighty Protectors write-up of DC super-villain Gizmo. This write-up is based upon issue #3 of the New Teen Titans comic book, as well as information from Wikipedia. Gizmo was created by Marv Wolfman and George Perez and made his comics debut in issue #3 of the New Teen Titans, published January 1981.

Gizmo's inventions shown in that issue included: a jet-pack powered by fire extinguishers, a rocket explosive (used against Robin), a "totalizer" bomb (used against Cyborg), and a "gravity tow" (used against Starfire). When emulating his 'gravity tow', I at first used the MP Ability Gravity Increase, but the more I thought about it, the less comfortable I felt using that ability. Eventually, I settled on using Siphon: Power Blast with Suppress, with the siphoned points going into a Repulsion Blast that can only be aimed in a downward direction. This simulates that Starfire can't use her star bolts the way she wants to and that it's her same star bolts that are powering the thing.

It takes a normal character an IN-based Task Check with 1 hour spent to create an invention (see 3.1.3, p. 103). Creating an invention in 1 Round suffers a -9 penalty to this roll (see 3.0.2.7, p. 102). Gizmo, however, gets +3 for his Inventor background and another +3 because of his 'Major Facilities' and 'Mobile Facilities' Inventing modifiers. Thus, he can create a new invention in 1 Round with an IN save @-3, which for him ends up being a 12- roll. Note: a GM may apply other modifiers to this roll, as he or she sees fit.
