Titan's Tower

Here is the Mighty Protectors write-up for the Titan's Tower! Also included are write-ups for SkycycleSkyjet, and T-Submarine (but not the "T-Copter").

The base does not correspond 100% to what is shown in the early comics. I added a second stairwell as well as elevators (which appear in later versions of the Tower) but it's close enough.

Notes:
1. A 'hangar' vehicle, or 'sub-vehicle' as the rules say, is free so long as it is 1/4 the size of the bay (MP p. 80). But if you notice closely the hangar size for the Skyjet is 1024 system spaces... So shouldn't the Skyjet be 256 total system spaces instead of 128? Ordinarily yes, but in this case I've given up those 128 additional system spaces to tack on (+5) CPs of High Tech modifier. The rules don't cover this but I think it's legit considering the cost of doubling the vehicle's size from 128 to 256 sys spaces costs, you guessed it, (+5) CPs!
2. There are three separate Communicators Systems in the Titan's Tower: C1) a single giant 'video wall' with lots of modifiers; C2) miniaturized 'beepers' carried by all Teen Titan members that beeps when someone in Titan's Tower activates it, and C3) a standard handset-style communicator that all of the Teen Titan members carry with them.
3. There is an issue where Doctor Light breaks into the  Titans' Tower, triggering an alarm. After reading this I wanted to reflect this ability in the base, but exactly how to do it took some thought. At first I thought about using Heightened Senses, or creating a new ability, but then it dawned on me that the Opposition rules would work great for simulating "breaking into a security system". Thus, I simply used the bonus supplied by a Knowledge 'Career' and called it "Security System." The task check bonus from this System is added to the base's IN save, totally 13-. If someone opens a locked door without the proper key, or blasts a hole in a wall, then the Security System will sound an alarm. Anyone trying to bypass this security system will take a -3 to their roll.

Additional Notes:
7-14-18: Updated the Skyjet to include an auto-pilot (i.e., a limited Robot Brain)
7-15-18: Revised Skyjet (again)
7-17-18: Revised Skycycle & added the T-Submarine; Revised Skyjet (once again); Updated & Revised Titans Tower
8-1-18: Updated T-Submarine

Teen Titans Skyjet

Here's my Mighty Protectors vehicle write-up of the Teen Titans Skyjet.  There wasn't much information available about this vehicle so I just, uh, winged it when designing it's size and features. I made it so it fits into a 1024 system space hangar on the top floor of Titan Tower.

NOTES:
7-14-18: I learned that it has an auto-pilot, so I've added a limited Robot Brain, and updated the sheet  as appropriate.
7-15-18: I wasn't satisfied with what I had done, and I had gained more knowledge about this vehicle, so I have again revised and updated the Skyjet.
7-17-18: Revised Skyjet once again.

Starfire

Here's my Mighty Protectors write-up for Starfire. Her stats & abilities are modeled on the character's portrayal in the New Teen Titans comic, issues #1-#16, published circa 1980. The New Teen Titans was co-created by Marv Wolfman and George Perez.

Starfire's primary abilities are HTH combat, flight, and energy projection from her hands. She was trained for many years by the Warlords of Okaara and is considered an excellent fighter. This training also imbued her with a warrior's ethos; on several occasions she has to be talked out of killing an opponent. Although she has a much different view on life than her companions, she nevertheless acquiesces to their point of view, wishing to be their friend.

In MP terms, Starfire's flight ability is considered to be extra obvious to sight: you can see the fiery trail she leaves behind in several of the pictures below.

Her kissing Robin shows a couple of things: first, is her ability to 'absorb' languages through physical contact and secondly, her free spirit. At one point, she wonders why she has to wear a bikini to go swimming...

Raven

Here's my Mighty Protectors write-up for Raven. Her stats & abilities are modeled on the character's portrayal in the New Teen Titans comic, issues #1-#16, published circa 1980. The New Teen Titans was co-created by Marv Wolfman and George Perez.

Here's the google sheet showing Raven's Arsenal of Spells, as well as PDFs of the MP sheets for Raven and Raven's Soul-Self.

In writing-up Raven, I went through several iterations as I tried to nail-down how best to simulate her soul-self while still spending as few CPs as possible. I tried Astral Projection but found it did not work quite right and made the overall character very CP intensive. I tried a modified version of Companion, but that too was insufficient. Ultimately, I decided that the Ability that worked best is Duplication, albeit with a couple of modifiers.

Robin the Boy Wonder

Here's my Mighty Protectors write-up for Robin. His stats & abilities are modeled on the character's portrayal in the New Teen Titans comic, issues #1-#16, published circa 1980. The New Teen Titans was co-created by Marv Wolfman and George Perez.

Here is the google sheet showing Robin's Utility Belt, as well as PDFs of the MP sheets for Robin and his Batcycle.

7/12/16 -- I revised Robin's Abilities: I made his Vehicle part of the Titan's Tower base, saving him 10 CPs; I lowered his Experience Levels from 30 to 20 CPs, saving another 10 CPs; I changed his Heightened Defense to Physical only, saving 7 CPs, and I gave him Luck +1 for +2.5 CPs. He now totals 200 CPs, like all of the other New Teen Titans!

Kid Flash (Wally West)

Here's my Mighty Protectors write-up for Kid Flash. His stats & abilities are modeled on the character's portrayal in the New Teen Titans comic, issues #1-#16, published circa 1980. The New Teen Titans was created by Marv Wolfman and George Perez.

In issues #1 through #16, Kid Flash usually attacks in one of two ways: he punches opponents or he rotates his arms at super-speed, creating a vortex that acts like hurricane force winds. He's shown running over water, running up the sides of buildings, flying, and 'phasing' through walls. On several occasions he also states that he can't be seen due to his super-speed.

In the beginning Wally is shown as being retired from the super-hero biz, but he gets the itch to don the tights again when Raven visits him, and he remains somewhat infatuated and protective of her. Throughout these issues, however, he is shown as being unsure about remaining a superhero.

Cyborg

Here's my Mighty Protectors write-up for Cyborg. His stats & abilities are modeled on the character's portrayal in the New Teen Titans comic, issues #1-#6, published circa 1980. The New Teen Titans was created by Marv Wolfman and George Perez.

Here is the google sheet for Cyborg's Arsenal, whose slots represent the various attachments stored in his belt. When using a different slot, Cyborg must use his entire Movement phase to change out the weapon. Each weapon also draws it's PR from an internal Energy supply, not from Cyborg's Power.

Changeling

Here's my Mighty Protectors write-up for Changeling (who was formerly known as Beast Boy). His stats & abilities are modeled on the character's portrayal in the New Teen Titans comic, issues #1-#6, published circa 1980. The New Teen Titans was created by Marv Wolfman and George Perez.

Modeling his shape changing powers in the Mighty Protectors rules is a bit tricky...  I ultimately decided to use Arsenal as a one-stop-shop for all of his different animal forms. At 75 points, the Arsenal cost exceeds his Ability Cap by quite a bit, but I feel it's worth it because it is by far the easiest solution to the problem of simulating his powers.

You can see a google sheets version of his arsenal here @Changelings Arsenal. I did create one of his animal shapes, an elephant. Note that every one of his animal forms should include 38 CPs of Regeneration, as shown on Changeling's character sheet. Also note that by spending just 5 xp, the number of slots in his arsenal could double from 36 to 72, which is possible with the 'Split Slots & Options' modifier found under the Arsenal ability on p. 27 of the MP rule book.

City of Heroes Campaign: Drifters Base

Here's the write-up of the Hyperion Drifters base which I have dubbed "The Hole in the Wall."

So far, this base has gone through a ton of revisions. The first draft had a lot of errors. After about the 10th iteration I realized that it was missing the (-15) Base modifier! After fixing that problem I then realized that the overall CP cost exceeded the Ability Cap of the PCs, who currently have 110 experience points. So... I had to remove a big chunk of the layout.

In the process of doing these layout revisions I also changed some of the base's systems, like making the Teleportation System an "open system" (see MP p. 82) so the PCs can just walk on top of it and be teleported. I also added the Integral System of Adaptation: Asphyxiation. This simulates the base having it's own air-purification system.

The base is located somewhere underground... exactly where will depend on the preference of the players.

CP Contribution:
4 Cobweb Kid
4 Edie Helion
4 Lady Hel
4 Lone Star
4 Texas Stranger
4 Watch Dog
24 Total

If you fast forward to the 2:29:05 mark of Episode 5 of Jeff's City of Heroes Mighty Protectors campaign, you can catch us talking about the "Paradise Jar" and, later, a possible base.

Drifters Base Record Sheet

Notes:

1. The base doors are 1 inch thick and SR 10 (SR 6 to Psychic). The outer walls are 8 inches thick and SR 5 (SR 3 to Psychic). The inner walls are 4 inches thick and SR 5 (SR 3 to Psychic).
2. Armor: All vehicles and bases get 27.5 CPs, or 15 points, of Armor for free. When adding to Armor, you should add any additional CPs on top of the free 27.5 CPs. In this case, there are 32 system spaces added to base armor. Normally, 32 sys spaces would give 30 CPs, but this base has Low Tech, which reduces those 30 CPs to 25 CPs. Next, you apply the Integral System modifier (see MP p. 82 ), which halves those 25 CPs to 12.5 CPs. Finally, by adding those 12.5 CPs to the default 27.5 CPs of Armor that all vehicles/bases start with, you get 40 CPs of Armor, which is 5/5/5/5 plus 3 in Psychic.
3. The "Jar of Paradise" is simulated with a separate Armor System: a device that normally sits on a table in the lab, but is Gear and may be taken out of the base.
4. The Communicators come as a pair of  'hands-free' Gear by default and may be taken out of the base. The Multitudes modifier for 'non-combat' Abilities (MP p. 92) is applied twice, making the default 2 into 8 devices. Consider their 16 system spaces as "recharging stations."
5. The Power Blast systems have a 120 degree arc of fire, although considering their placement, it doesn't do them much good.
6. The Teleportation System is a platform in the Lab, butting up against the back wall. In order to be teleported somewhere, either a PC or the Robot Brain must use the Heightened Senses viewfinder to select a spot within 250" and then make an AG-based attack roll to hit the appropriate square.
7. At least once a month at least one PC must spend their Wealth roll, and roll a 4 or higher, to buy the "fuel" for the base's Regeneration System.

Ant-Man (Scott Lang)

With Ant-Man and The Wasp premiering next week, I felt that I should do a Mighty Protectors write-up for the Bronze Age version of Scott Lang's Ant-Man, created by John Byrne and David Michelinie.

The character first appeared as Scott Lang in Avengers #181 (March, 1979) and as Ant-Man in Marvel Premiere #47 (April, 1979). His stats & abilities are based upon Marvel Premiere #47-48. Additionally, here's the PDF of an early bronze-age Wasp write-up.

It's fairly tricky to model a swarm comprised of thousands of tiny ants, but I think I did an Ok job. Here is the pdf for Ant-Man's Summoned Ants.

Blue Bolt

Here is my Mighty Protectors write-up for Blue Bolt, a Golden Age superhero who was created by Joe Simon. He debuted in Blue Bolt Comics #1, published by Novelty Press in June, 1940.

Blue Bolt is often helped by Dr. Bertoff, a lost-world scientist whose radium injection combined with lightning energy to create the Blue Bolt's super powers (see origin panels below for more information).

Starting with issue #2 and continuing until issue #12, Jack Kirby joined Joe in working on the comic.Their work on Blue Bolt predates their collaboration on the golden age Captain America and is the first time the two legends worked together.

Blue Bolt's main super power seems to be heightened strength as well as other increased physical attributes. However, while he can engage in fisticuffs with the best of them, he is most often shown firing his two lightning pistols, devices given to him by Dr. Bertoff.
