Size Change B) Smaller

In the Mighty Protectors rules, Size Change B) Smaller makes it harder to be hit with a ranged attack, but it also helps against non-ranged attacks, like punching.

For example, 20 CPs in Size Change B) Smaller gives a character a Profile of 1/120.

This means that if the small character is standing right next to a normal-sized opponent who is trying to punch him, he is effectively 120 game inches away, and suffers a -5 to hit penalty.

Blacksun Armored Vehicle

From my United Dystopia of America campaign comes the Deimos, a heavily-armored and air-tight vehicle that the Blacksun mercenaries travel in. They can also use their communication gear to scan radio channels, listening for Resistance broadcasts.

The picture is a slightly modified version from Free 3d Models.

Blacksun Mercenary

The Blacksun mercenaries were the feared enforcers of a rogue American Presidency in my United Dystopia of America Mighty Protectors campaign.

Need some mercenaries for a Roxxon-like corporation or a despotic super-villain who runs a small country? These guys work great.

Hyperion

Here's another write-up of a Marvel 'bronze-age' villain. This time it's a version of Hyperion from Avengers #141. In the story arc, Hyperion and the rest of his Squadron Supreme teammates are working for Roxxon Oil -- which has plans to take over the world using the powers of the Serpent Crown!

This version of Hyperion is much less powerful than later versions, but he's still extremely powerful, especially when facing against a group of standard power heroes. Hyperion believes himself to be the most-powerful hero of his Earth, but in one of my favorite superhero beatdowns, the Vision lays him low using his disruption ability.

Hyperion was created by Roy Thomas; the picture is by Sal Buscema. Hyperion and Avengers are trademarks owned by Marvel Entertainment.

Golden Guru

Below is the write-up for Jeff's character in my United Dystopia of America campaign: the Golden Guru! He, along with his fellow vigilantes, fought against government tyranny, obtaining aid from members of his "Golden Horde" along the way.

This campaign was notable for having gone through four different RPG systems: Pocket Universe, Ultraverse (my brother's rule system), Living Legends, and finally Mighty Protectors.

This version shows the Golden Guru at the beginning of his vigilante career.

Converting Mutants & Masterminds 2.0 to Mighty Protectors

Here are some guidelines that I've come up with for converting a 2nd Edition Mutants & Masterminds character over to the Mighty Protectors rules.  Here's a pdf of the charts used: M&M2e to MP

Power Levels

M&M Power Level 10, the 'standard' hero level, nicely translates into MP's 'standard level' hero with 150 total Character Points. Use the chart below to represent M&M Power Levels into Mighty Protector CPs.

Task Difficulty

Check the chart below for examples of converting M&M's Difficulty Class to MP's system.

Drawbacks

When converting M&M2.0 Drawbacks to MP Weaknesses, consult the chart below:

Non-Strength Characteristics

To convert a non-Strength M&M stat into it's equivalent MP stat, use this chart:

To convert Strength, use the chart below. I'm using M&M's 'heavy load' category to represent the baseline MP Strength value.

Feats

Most M&M Feats don't work with the Mighty Protector's rules system, but some do, like the ones that give small bonuses for hitting or for defense. Check out the chart below for examples:

Skills

Convert Languages on a one-to-one basis. For skills, see the chart below for examples. In general, every 4 M&M skills equals one MP Knowledge Area.

Converting Abilities

Use the chart below to find the appropriate MP Ability. In general, a 'standard level' MP hero has 20 CPs in each Ability.

Jocasta

Although Jocasta was never a full member of the Bronze Age Avengers, she was going to be made a probationary member. Still, she adventured with the Avengers, helping them against several super-powered foes, from the Collector to Korvac.

Here's my MP take on her stats and abilities.

Moondragon

Moondragon first meets the Avengers in issue #135 and later joins the team, thus qualifying as a "bronze-age" Avenger. Here's my take on her stats and abilities using the Mighty Protector rules.

To convert Hero Strength to MP Strength, use the chart below:

To convert other Hero Characteristics to MP Basic Characteristics, use this chart:

Lastly, to convert a Hero Power to a Mighty Protectors Ability, use this chart:

Mantis

Mantis is another Bronze Age Avenger that I missed in my earlier write-ups. She first appears in The Avengers #112, drawn by Don Heck and created by writer Steve Englehart. Below is my MP take on her stats and abilities.

Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos

Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos were the inspiration for the Oddball Eight characters that are featured in my Mighty Protectors WW II source book, War Heroes.

To give you an idea of what a commando looks like using the MP rules, here is a write-up of Sgt. Fury as he might appear at the beginning of his commando career.

V&V Levels to MP CPs

If for whatever reason you wanted to run a Mighty Protectors campaign using the levels and experience rules from V&V 2.1, then you could use the chart shown below.

Using the old experience rules would likely make for significantly slower character progression, depending on how much XP the GM awarded per gaming session, but it would also allow for more granularity when it comes to rewarding -- or penalizing -- characters.

You could also add a Karma* system, a la the FASERIP system, on top of the xp system, which some players would love (points at Dennis), and some would hate (points at Jeff).

* Mutants & Masterminds has something similar with their Hero Points; it's just small numbers

United Dystopia of America (Chainfist)

In the United Dysptopia of America, crime is rampant, and Benjamin Wang's family has suffered. He became the "Chainfist," a masked vigilante who fights against the gang members and criminals terrorizing his neighborhood. When government agents arrested his parents on immigration grounds, he took over running the family martial arts dojo. The character portrait is by an unknown artist and is used without permission by it's creator.

United Dystopia of America (Storm)

Storm is another player-character in my Kick-Ass inspired campaign of a future dystopian America.

Kat van DeGraf, Storm's secret ID, is a Private Detective who owns her own business. She should probably have a Base for that, but this campaign was run before the Base rules were implemented.

Storm's favorite combat tactic is to use her Ambidexterity to fire both of her machine pistols, taking a -1 to hit with each one (see section 4.14.11 of the MP rules on two weapon combat). Copyright 2017 by Bruce Adams.

United Dystopia of America (Fiesty Cholita)

A few years ago, I ran a Mighty Protectors role-playing campaign titled United Dystopia of America. In this campaign, the Lehman Brothers financial meltdown of 2008-2009 led to a worldwide depression, with the U.S. being especially hard-hit. Unemployment reached 35%, crime became a gigantic problem, and the government became fascistic in its response to the crisis.

A very unsavory man was elected president of the United States, and with sweeping new laws, and no real opposition from Congress, he quickly turned the once mighty American democracy into something of a 3rd world hell-hole. A private security firm, Black Sun Worldwide, was paid billions of dollars to enforce some of the new draconian laws, and its jack-booted mercenaries became widely despised.

The players' characters are the heroes of the campaign. They are a rag-tag group of vigilantes, doing what they can to fight the government, crime, and injustice in general.

One of these heroes was a Luchadora, code-named the Fiesty Cholita, and played by Talzhemir.
