Physical Ability L) Preternatural Reflexes

Physical Ability L) Preternatural Reflexes

For (10) CPs, the character gets to roll their initiative against opponents who are 'holding' their actions. If the roll is higher than the initiative roll of any opponents who have been holding their actions, he may go first. This is a Continual Ability. PR = 0 per round.

Example: The Fox is walking into a trap set by three mobsters who have been holding their actions waiting for the hero to show up. The initiative of the mobsters is 1, 3, and 4. Normally, anyone walking into the trap would not get to roll initiative, but the Fox, who has Preternatural Reflexes gets to roll. She rolls a 5 and gets her action before the mobsters.

The Mandalorian

Throw in a bit of the spaghetti western A Fistful of Dollars, a dash of the graphic novel Lone Wolf and Cub, and a sprinkling of John Wick, blend it all togehter and set it in the Star Wars universe and you get Disney's show The Mandalorian!

Here is my V&V3: Mighty Protectors write-up of the "Mando"! Below I'll go over the reasons why I choose certain traits or abilities.

Neutral Side - I made the Mandalorian Neutral because "good" people don't usually go around disintegrating other sentient beings. On the other hand, he's not all bad, with redeemable qualities such as saving "baby Yoda".

Incredibly Accurate - The Mando rarely ever misses when shooting someone. So, I gave him lots of heightened expertise.

Disintegration - In the Mighty Protectors rules it's hard to disintegrate an individual because, as the rules say "living things struck with Disintegration energy don’t vaporize - they merely ‘disrupt’, taking full damage from the attack, but not actually disintegrating until they’re no longer living".

However, if one were to use a "High Lethality" rule for a Mighty Protectors campaign (see below), then it becomes much easier to actually disintegrate a living being.

Arsenal - The Mando has a lot of gear, from armor to weapons and lots of things in between. Arsenal is the best and cheapest way to do this in the MP system. You can see the detailed arsenal write-up here: Mandalorian Arsenal.

Stats - I gave Mando fairly high stats but nothing superhuman. He's the equivalent of a world-class athlete.

Wealth - The world of the Mandalorian does involve money. He earns it from doing bounties and he spends it upgrading or fixing his armor, fueling his ship, and paying for weapon cells, and so forth.

Weaknesses - In the first episode, the Mandalorian expresses distaste for droids, so I gave him the appropriate character hook. He also seems keen on following The Way of the Mandalorian religion. Thus another compulsion for that.

Vehicle - I had previously written-up the Mando's ship. You can see that post here: Razor Crest Gunship

High Lethality Campaign - Roll damage normally. Multiply by five any damage the character takes beyond 0 hits. This can easily kill "normal" characters, but will not outright kill player-characters or important npc's, who tend to have many more hit points than an average person.

For example, the Mando averages 17 points of damage with his disruptor rifle (disintegration). An average person can roll with 4, take 4 hits putting them at 0. The remaining 9 hits are multiplied by five: 9x5=45, which is more than their remaining 36 power. Because they are dead by disintegration ray, their body vaporizes.

Notes:

  1. 12-06-19 I've updated the Mando's arsenal to include devices shown in episode 5: flash charge and handcuffs!

Rock Python

Here's my MP write-up for Rock Python, a one-time member of Marvel's evil Serpent Society! This write-up reflects his Bronze Age abilities.

Rock Python first appeared in Captain America #341, published May 1988, and was created by Mark Gruenwald and Kieron Dwyer.

Rock Python attacks his opponents by first throwing a grappling "metal egg". Once his target is ensnared, he will then throw a knockout gas egg at the victim.

Coachwhip

Here's my MP write-up for Coachwhip, a one-time member of Marvel's evil Serpent Society! This write-up reflects her Bronze Age abilities.

Coachwhip first appeared in Captain America #341, published May 1988, and was created by Mark Gruenwald and Kieron Dwyer.

Coachwhip wields two "steel-link" whips. In combat, she will either slash opponents using the two-weapon combat rules (MP pg. 117) or she will attempt to grapple an opponent with the whips. Once her target is successfully grappled she will use the electrical bolt attack on her next combat round. Note that if the target is grappled, no roll is needed to hit the target with the electrical attack.

New MP Ability: Base B) Grounds

This new V&V3: Mighty Protectors ability allows a character add a "grounds" area around his base.

BASE B) GROUNDS
This is the land that surrounds the headquarters, expressed in acres. A square mile is 1056" x 1056"  and consists of 640 acres.

The terrain of the base grounds should match the local terrain. For example, if the base HQ is located within a desert, the grounds should be desert-like; if located in the Arctic, then the grounds should be ice and snow, etc.

Sensors, traps, "pop-up" blasters, and other systems can be placed on base grounds but must be part of the Base A) layout.

The CP cost and accompanying size is shown on the chart below.

.Notes:
1. The existing Base ability becomes BASE A) HEADQUARTERS.

Rattler first appeared in Captain America #310, published in 1985, and created by Mark Gruenwald and Paul Neary.

Rattler usually attacks his opponents by means of his bionic tail: either "rattling" them -- an area of effect sonic blast  -- or bludgeoning them.

Diamondback first appeared in Captain America #310, published in 1985.

She is a capable acrobat and martial artist, but her primary means of attack is by throwing her "diamond" darts.

Diamondback is not really evil, she just had terrible luck growing up and was exposed to really bad elements. In later comic issues she actually gives up being a super-villain and starts dating Steve Rogers!

Fer-De-Lance

Here's my MP write-up for Fer-de-Lance, a one-time member of Marvel's evil Serpent Society! This write-up reflects her Bronze Age abilities.

Fer-de-Lance first appeared in Captain America #337, published 1988. She was created by Mark Gruenwald and Tom Morgan.

Before being a member of the Serpent Society, Fer-de-Lance was a member of the fourth Serpent Squad. She helped rob a casino in Las Vegas with her teammates Copperhead, Puff Adder, and Black Racer.

It's not known how Fer-de-Lance acquired her abilities.

When in combat, Fer-de-Lance will usually attack with both weapons. Because she is ambidextrous, she only suffers a -1 to hit penalty with each attack.

Copperhead

Intro:

Here's my MP write-up for Copperhead, a one-time member of Marvel's evil Serpent Society! This write-up reflects his Bronze Age abilities.

Origin:

Copperhead first appeared in Captain America #337, published 1988. He was created by Mark Gruenwald, Ralph Macchio and Tom Morgan.

Before being a member of the Serpent Society, Copperhead was the leader of the fourth Serpent Squad. He helped rob a casino in Las Vegas with his teammates Black Racer, Puff Adder, and Fer-de-Lance, but was caught and sent to prison.

At a later date, he and his fellow Serpent Squad members were freed from prison by Sidewinder, who then inducted all of them into his Serpent Society.

Powers/Abilities:

Copperhead has a minor ability in hand-to-hand combat.

The fingers of Copperhead's gauntlets can fire electrical bolts. They can be recharged with spare cartridges located within his suit's belt.

He has wrist-mounted titanium grapnel lines -- "shooting fangs" -- that can be retracted and used again after being fired.

Lastly, he has a single charge of a magnesium flare located within his snaked-shaped helmet.

Asp

Here's my MP write-up for Asp, a member of Marvel's evil Serpent Society! This write-up reflects her Bronze Age abilities.

In Asp's first appearance (Captain America #310, 1985), she and several other snake-themed villains are recruited into the Serpent Society by Seth Voelker, aka Sidewinder.

Asp constantly generates invisible toxins within her body which can slowly affect those around her. Long term exposure to Asp would almost certainly kill any normal person.

Asp can temporarily deplete this toxic buildup by channeling it into ranged bursts of energy, which can kill (Electric Bolt) or paralyze (Paralysis Ray). She can only do this a few times before her energy is depleted.

Sidewinder

Here's my MP write-up for Sidewinder, the original leader of Marvel's evil Serpent Society! This write-up reflects his Bronze Age abilities. Sidewinder first appeared in issue #64 of Marvel Two-In-One (1980) and was created by Mark Gruenwald, Ralph Macchio and George Perez.

Seth Voelker was an economics professor who lost his job and was subsequently hired by the Roxxon Oil corporation as a financial analyst. It was while going through their books that he learned of their illegal activities. Rather than report their crimes he decided that he wanted to experience the thrills of being a criminal, and so joined their ranks of super-villains as Sidewinder!

Roxxon scientists surgically implanted a cybernetic chip within his brain. He was also equipped with a cloak that allowed him to teleport, a suit that allowed him to breath underwater, and four mini-drones (stored within his belt) that could deliver powerful electrical blasts. Because of the chip, he could teleport his body parts with no ill effects.

If Sidewinder is knocked unconscious, his cybernetic chip will randomly teleport his body within line of sight. Due to the continual teleporting, his unconscious body also gains a 9 Physical Defense.

Sidewinder and his team of snake-themed villains did succeed in retrieving the Serpent Crown, which he delivered to company president Hugh Jones, but he soon left Roxxon and formed his own super group, the Serpent Society!

New MP Ability: Cybernetic Chip

Mental Ability X) Cybernetic Chip

This Continual Ability gives the character a surgically implanted computer chip that operates similarly to a Vehicle Robot Brain system. Because it is inside the character's brain it cannot be broken, taken, or disarmed under normal combat conditions.

The cybernetic chip shares the character's IN and CL, has access to the character's senses, and knows what the character knows (as per Telepathy, Verbal & Indirect). The chip can control the character's body and has access to the character's abilities.

This Ability costs (15) CPs. PR = 0 per round.

Notes:
1. I used a modified version of Duplication as the basis for this Ability.

New MP Ability: Body Part Removal

Physical Ability X) Body Part Removal

For (10) CPs, this ability allows the character to remove their body parts which continue to operate with no ill effects. It takes an Action to remove a body part.

A link, whose special effect is determined when the ability is bought, exists between the character and the removed body part. This link allows the character to control, and gain the benefits of, the body part at any range.

Separated body parts may move depending on their function. For example, a hand or arm may crawl, a leg may hop, and an eyeball may roll.

Generally, there is a penalty for hitting removed body parts due to their smaller size. The part itself has a 0 Physical Defense. For arms and legs the to hit penalty is @-3. For Heads, hands, and feet the to hit penalty is @-6. For eyes, noses, and tongues the to hit penalty is @-9.

Any damage done to the body part is felt by the character and may be rolled with. If the body part takes hit point damage, the character must make an EN+7 save at a penalty of -1 per Hit taken or lose the use of the body part until it is healed or repaired.

This is a Persistent Ability. PR = 0 per round.

Death Adder

Here's my MP write-up for Death Adder, a member of Marvel's evil Serpent Society! This write-up reflects his Bronze Age abilities.

Death Adder has several possible attacks: he can slash with his grafted-on claws, swipe with his cybernetically-controlled tail, or use his poisons on either attack. He has two different types of poisons: one that kills and one that paralyzes. He also carries in his belt an antidote to his poisons (Negation).

His claws, tail, gloves, and suit are all breakable.

His suit provides protection from attacks and also helps him survive the crushing depths underwater. His surgically-implanted gills allow him to breathe indefinitely underwater.

Black Mamba

Here's my MP write-up for Black Mamba, a member of Marvel's evil Serpent Society! This write-up reflects her Bronze Age abilities.

Black Mamba generally prefers to attack her victims while they are unaware of her presence. She first scans her target to find a memory of a loved one. Shen then utilizes her Shaping ability to create an image of that person (the shape uses it's own shape-shifting ability to assume the correct form).

The shape, now in the form of the target's loved one, will use it's Emotion Control ability to cause the victim to be in a euphoric state.

The shape can also siphon Endurance from it's victim or crush the life out of it with super-human strength.

Due to the psychic link between Black Mamba and her created shape (also known as her "darkforce skin"), one half of any damage done to the shape is taken by Black Mamba.

Most of the time, Black Mamba will have her four companion snakes coiled around her body, and delaying their action until a foe is within striking distance.

Notes:
1. When Black Mamba activates her Shaping ability, she usually spends 3 Power, creating a human-sized shape with the following stats: weighs 1341 pounds, SR 15, a volume of 1.67 cubic feet, and has 20 hits.

Cybernetic Arms Destroyed

Notes:
1. Bushmaster's cybernetic tail lets him run, or rather slither, at 32/128, which is far faster than his ground movement of 19".
2. His cybernetic tail gives Bushmaster an overall length of 14 feet, giving him a profile of x1.6.

Notes:
1. As I've read more of the source material I've found that Anaconda is much stronger than I initially believed her to be. So, I've changed her stats a bit, raising her ST from 24 to 30 and lowering her EN a bit.

Crystal

Here's my MP write-up for Crystal, a member of Marvel's Inhumans, and her pet "dog", Lockjaw! This write-up reflects their Silver and Bronze Age abilities.

Crystal Sheet Image

Notes:
1. Lockjaw's telepathy is used to track down people, "see" where they are, and then teleport to them.
2. Anyone who wishes to be teleported by Lockjaw must be holding on to him, i.e., Lockjaw "carries" them.
